I have the honour to transmit for your considera-

tion the enclos ́d copies of Extracts from two letters of the

inspector of Schools dated the 4th. of October last and the

tel. 6th. ultimo respectively on the subject of an application

2-1900.

from the Manager of the Roman Catholic Schools in the Colony

for a grant-in-aid towards defraying the cost of certain ad-

ditions to Et.Joseph's College.

Ultimately on the recommendation of the Inspector

of Schools the grant, now proposed was ascessed on the value

($756) of the old orphanage which has been turned imo class

rooms and of the quarters for three teachers ($1180), or an a

total sum of $1986.

In the circumstances explained in the lest

paragraph of Mr.Brewin's letter of the 6th. ultimo specifica-

tions and plans were not submitted to the Director of Public

Works, but the buildings have been inspected and valued by

the Director of Public Works.

I rm of opinion that a grant can properly be

made under the regulations and recommend a grant of $540 which

Stum is arrived at after making a pro rata reduction on the

total grants under the regulations in this case and in the
