your despatch No.280 of the 8th. of December allowed Mr. Chatham to draw at once the maximum rate of salaryau- thorised in that despatch for his appointment.
Looking to the responsibilities of
Mr. Chatham's office I consider that some difference might
well be made in the salary attached to it compared with
that of the next officer in the Department the Senior
Executive Engineer.
