I was absent when the recent application
praying for relief was sent in by a large number of my brother
officers or I, should most certainly have joined in that --
petition..

In August last conjointly with Mr. Jones,
1st. Boarding Officer, I made application for an adequate house
allowance whoch however was not entertained, though His Excel-
lency the Governor was good enough to express his sympathy,
whilst recommending that we should wait for the report of a
Commission that was reported shortly to be appointed.

I earnestly trust that in view of these
facts you will be pleased to recommend to His Excellency such
substantial increase in my salary as to him may seem fit to re-
compense me for the loss of position, as well as to enable me
to live and support my family in that degree of comfort which
I might reasonably expect and which I could surely have main-
tained had I not joined the Government Service.
