I beg to state that I never did so; but when the state

of work permitted it. I portioned out these slips to any of

the Clerks who very little to do. This has always been the

custom; but for months book it has been impossible to find

time for anything of this sort.

I may add that these slips were shelved; as they are only a

mere matter of form:- in fact they are superfluous; as delivery

of any registered Mail can easily be proved by Postal Union

Methods.

Neither the London Office nor the continental Offices

I may mention that I have täke any notice of them. (i.e. of these receipts) occasionally

seen one or two returned from Paris-A-lloden, but never onc

from London nor from India. I may add that this office only

began the practice some 9 or 12 months ago.

These acknowledgments of Receipts are all placed in

a drawer, set aside for that purpose, when received by me;

but a great mumber of them are often delivered to the P.M.G.

who sends them through by coolieto me. The drawer in which

they are kept is cleared once a week if the work will permit

of it, but at the very latest once a fortnight. I generally
