immediatly suspended. As a result of this communication Mr.Barron duly reported himself on the 11th. of January.

9. Before entering upon his Police duties it was necessary for Mr. Barron to be medically examined as to his physical fitness, and the medical report, upon him was that owing to the weak state of his heart he was unfit for Police service.

10.

There being no clerical post in any of the various Departments to which he could be properly appointed I had no alternative but to allow him to be invalided as unfit for Police service and to grant him a gratuity both on acount of his Police service 2nd of his service in the Post Office

His service in the Police Force was 6 years for which he was entitled to a gratuity of $500 (being 12 th of $600 for each year's since) and his service in the Post Office 3 years and 2 months with salary at the rate of $1440 per annum.

Mr. Barron was originaly drafted from England for the Police Force, and in all cases in which a Police Officer who has been thus engaged is invalided it is usual to grant him a passage home, and as it was

le extremely undesirable to have ir. Barron without employment, or the prospect of employment in the Colony I decided with the advice of the Executive Council to allow him the privilege which is accorded to Police Officers.

Furthermore as he is about to leave the Colony I have in anticipation of your approval allowed. him to draw a gratuity of $360 in respect of his service in the Post Office in addition to the gratuity of $300 in respect of his Police Service, and I have to ask for your confirmation of my action in this matter as well as
