I have the honour to inform you that in October last application was made by the Land Officer for the temporary assistance of a Chinese translator in consequence of the large number of Chinese deeds relating to property in the New Territory which were being lodged in the Land Office and which required translation into English, and investigation.
Accordingly I, approved of Mr. Li Tak-Yung, Assistant teacher in the Sai-Yung-Pun Government School being temporarily transferred to the Land Office as Translator with a salary of $40 a month."

an increase in the work at the Land Office since the date of Mr. Li's temporary appointment, and it has become evident that
