I have the honour to inform you that Mr. L. Gibbs, Assistant Engineer in the Public Works Department, has resigned his appointment as from the 31st instant, in order to join as partner a local firm of architects.
2. I accepted Mr. Gibbs' resignation with regret for he was a most hardworking and capable officer and had moreover 10 years' experience of the Colony.
3. It being impossible to fill Mr. Gibbs' vacancy locally, I telegraphed to you on the 21st ultimo, to the following effect:
"Gibbs, Assistant Engineer, Public Works Department resigned. Successor should be appointed as soon as possible. Salary $2,400."
I trust that you will be able to select an Engineer at an early date, as assistance in the Public Works Department is urgently required.
