Sends Reports for June, Sep & Dec for 1899:
*22663--15000-12-46
-150x11-92
(Minutes.)
The Reports for these quarters of the year are now to hand together. This means that two of them have been delayed.
It might be well to request the Governor to send them quarterly. The reports are on the whole satisfactory. The number of admissions fluctuates considerably, which may mean anything or nothing; but the worst feature is the steady diminution of the proportion of patients treated in the European ward to those treated in Chinese wards, the figures for the three quarters being 538, 194, and 103 respectively.
Also the vaccination figures are unsatisfactory. In the last quarter of 1898 (19 12873) 1685 people were vaccinated; in the June quarter 146, in September quarter apparently none, in the December quarter 430.
There is also an alarming amount of Beri-beri & Phthisis. We ask that the returns be sent quarterly in future.
