4. On the sight of The 29th January Missionary at the station was awakened at 1 am, by the barking of the dog, and firing to the window he saw six men going across to the Mission home. A short distance behind them a large number of men followed. He again fired his revolver and rifle, and they decamped, seeing that The mission people were awake. They decamped to the Government House.

5. M. Schaub said that he has given The information to the German Consul at Canton. I told him that if he could give timely information to me, I would see that they were not misled. I shall by tomorrow's mail request Her Majesty's Consul at Canton to inform The Viceroy, Li Hung Chang of the occurrence.
