PUBLIC WORKS OFFICE,
Hong Kong, 12th January, 1900.
Referring to C.O.1671, I have much pleasure in forwarding for the favourable consideration of His Excellency the Governor a letter from G.J.W. King, Land Bailiff, for an increase of salary in view of the extra work given to him in connection with the New Territory.
The increased salary asked for seems reasonable, and I hope it may be found possible to grant it.
I am constantly calling Mr. King's services into requisition in connection with the acquisition of land required for the roads in the New Territory, in which matters I have always found him careful and painstaking and treating the natives with much tact.
His services in assisting the Assessor can be ascertained by reference to the Honourable the Treasurer.
I have &c.
(Signed.) R.D. Ormsby,
Director of Public Works.
The Honourable
The Colonial Secretary.
