Statement of Ngai Wai.

Ngai Wai states that on the 21st day of the 10th moon (23.11.99) I identified 14 head of cattle belonging to my Master which were amongst the number of my Master's cattle (26) taken at Tai Miu Hap in the Ying Tak District. I identified these 14 at Ko Tong Market town in the Pun Yu District in the possession of Kong Ying, a cattle dealer. He stated that he had bought them from Yu Wei. I then took the cattle to my own place at Ping Shan Village distant 4 tong shins from Ko Tong. There was no dispute or quarrel over the matter as Kong Ying said, "I bought these cattle from Yu Wei and if they are yours, take them first and when Yu Wei is caught, then the matter can be settled." He would then ask for the money for them.

When Yu Wei was caught he asked me for money - the price he had paid for them - 22 taels each head. I did not pay him but I handed back the 14 cattle then in the presence of the Headman, Lau Shü-yau, of the Village Council at Ping Shan Village in the Kwan Wo Kuk.

I did this because he constantly asked me for the money. I told him to come to Hongkong to my Master for the money.
