he states: I am 54 years of age. I am a native of 田心鄉, Hoi Fung 海豐. I am proprietor of passage and cargo junk called the Wing Shun Fat 永順發. She has not got a Hongkong license. I trade between Cheung Sha 長沙 in the Hoi Fung District 海豐 and Hongkong 香港. I have a partner in the junk named Tsoi Ming 明. The junk is of 800 piculs capacity. A son of mine named Ngau Fuk Kwai 福貴 serves on board the junk as seaman. There are 6 others besides named Chan Yung 陳容, Chan Lam-ti 陳林娣, Cheung Kam 綱, Cheung Sai 葉林具, Hui Li 張錦張, and Yip Lam-hing 許品. They are all natives of Hoi Fung.
On the 5th of the 8th moon (9th September) I sailed with the above-mentioned men, 25 passengers, and a cargo of sugar, pigs, salt vegetables, and garlic from Cheung Sha near Shan Mei 汕尾 in the Hoi Fung District for Hongkong. The following day at about 4 p.m. when off Ping Hoi 平海, a fishing junk of about 100 piculs capacity, with one mast and sail and 3 or 4 oars, and about 15 men on board came within about 100 feet of my junk and opened fire with muskets or rifles. I and my crew returned the fire.
