Government House,

Hong Kong, January, 1900.
Sir,
I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch No.50 of the 17th March, 1899, respecting the adhesion of the Colony to the Venice Convention of 1897.
2. The Government of this Colony has now decided to become a party to the Convention, and the old Quarantine Regulations have been brought into close agreement with section 8 of Chapter II of the Convention and have been incorporated, under the heading of Table L, in the new Merchant Shipping Consolidation Ordinance of 1899, which will be forwarded to you shortly.
3. The Government has not yet decided upon a suitable Observation Station; two such Stations have already been suggested, but there appear to be considerable objections to each of them, and steps are being taken to find some other locality which may meet all the requirements of the Colony in this respect.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your Most Obedient Humble Servant,
Aman
The Right Honourable
GOVERNOR C.
JOSEPH CHAMBERLAIN, M.P.,
