Then owing to the cubic capacity required by best modern per bed, the number of beds is very much curtailed, and while building it seems to us a pity that more cannot be added and the extension made of a more real and permanent use. As it is we are not at all satisfied with the plan there is no provision for the future, no separate maternity wards, and very insufficient spaces in areas and yards.
We are certain that Dr Atkinson will support your application, and as His Excellency the Governor evidently takes a keen interest in the welfare of the Chinese Community, we believe he will at once see the reasonableness of your application, which after all is for the good of the whole of the Chinese Community who form the largest portion of the inhabitants of the Colony. If we can assist at an interview by explaining plans we will be very happy, as now the scheme is started we are very anxious that the building should be as perfect and as convenient as possible.
