It appears from 3750 that Colonial expenditure has been incurred in connection with the occupation of Sham Shui; our expenditure, that is beyond the vote referred to in the present despatch. I had assumed from 15533/99 that considerable Colonial expenditure had been involved, but that our tel. of 13 June (on 14680) to which 15533 was a reply, referred to expenditure incurred in consequence of likely resistance by Chinese, e.g. as in latter part of that tel., resistance explained, to occupation of leased territory.
