I am directed by the Secretary of State for the Colonies to acknowledge the receipt of your letters of the 11th instant received on the 15th and to inform you that you have been passed as physically fit for service, and that you have accordingly been selected for appointment as Hospital warder in the Government Hospital at Hong Kong on the terms communicated to you by the letter from this Department of the 5th instant.

2. The Crown Agents for the Colonies have been instructed to take your passage by the first convenient steamer sailing after the 25th instant.

3. You should communicate with the Crown Agents, whose address is Downing Street, S. W., as to the agreement which you are required to sign with regard to the cost of your passage.

4. You will receive a formal letter of appointment from the Governor when you arrive in the Colony.

In reply to the question raised by you in your earlier letters I am to inform you that if your wife & child follow you out to Hong Kong, within six months of the date of your own departure, they will be granted free passages, but not otherwise.
