Glasgow 37th January 1879.
I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your letter No. 1307/99, dated the 19th inst., stating that no vacancy has hitherto occurred which would have afforded me an opportunity of offering myself for re-employment in the Colonial service.
In reply to your letter, I beg most respectfully to mention that there is still some hope of obtaining re-employment if I could conveniently be informed when a vacancy might occur.
Referring to my letter dated the 30th of December 1878, to the Colonial Office, I enquired if I could be granted an interview at the Colonial Office, in order to press my case, and having received no reply, could I still hope for a favourable answer on that subject?
I have the honour to be,
Your most Obedient Servant,
I.M. Ldw.
The Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office, London.
