Attar Singh late Sergeant-Major in the Police force in Hong Kong dismissed on charge of being implicated in some money-lending as being against the regulations of the Force
Attar Singh had served 13 years in the force when he was suddenly dismissed (see reference to an anonymous petition against him in para 5 of Attar Singh's petition to the Secretary of State; printed papers).
The charge against him Attar Singh believes to be, that he had (apparently years previously) given one Dallocha 30 dollars as a loan

Attar Singh denies this, and says the loan was given by one Ganda Singh, servant of the opium contractor

On 3d: Decr: 1898 DaRocha was suddenly confronted with Attar Singh, when the former before Captain May Attar Singh's Commanding Officer made a statement involving this charge against the latter

Attar Singh has no copy of the charge and no copy of this evidence but alleges the evidence was given by Dallocha with manifest prevarication

Attar Singh was suspended from office
The same evening Ganda Singh admitted having given the loan to DaRocha adding that the loan had been repaid to him about six months previously before witnesses
