Sir:-
Gov
In reply to your letter, No 21459/99, of the 29th
ultimo, respecting the notification to this Department by
the Treasurer of Hong Kong of the Secretary of State's
approval of the grant of retiring allowances to Civil
Servants, I am directed by the Comptroller and Auditor
General to acquaint you, for the information of the Secretary of State, that he concurs generally in the instructions on the subject which it is proposed to issue.
2.
As, however, the accounts of expenditure are
examined in London, it would be more convenient if the
notification of approval of payments originally made in
anticipation of such approval were forwarded by the
Treasurer direct to this Department instead of to the
Local Auditor.
I have the honour to be,
Under Secretary of State,
COLONIAL OFFICE.
Sir,
Your obedient servant
H. Phillips
