its liabilities, and among Some enjoyed by that bank, and which Notes are still to some Extent in circulation in the Colony, and there accepted the circulating medium as It is simply designed freely as those to keep up and continue this Existing state of things, though in the more convenient shape of the Bank being at liberty to issue Notes of its own without the inconvenience of Notes as they come in and are paid, having to be withdrawn from circulation through the inability to reissue.
Surely thus keeping up and continuing an existing state must be regarded as not interfering with the Note Issue of the Government, and as such the Directors will be glad if Ms. Secretary (Chamberlain) will reconsider the decision at present arrived at on this point.
As regards the Note Issue in Hongkong, where at present at least, no such Government Issue has been established, it is earnestly hoped that in any case the application of the Bank will, under the circumstances I have explained, be acceded to, and I am desired to point out that the Annual General Meeting of the Bank will take place in mid-April next, and such being convenient if my Directors could have the case, it would be very satisfactory if informed of the decision in regard thereto, not later than the End of March.
