Unvouched Expenditure 1896.
I have not yet received a voucher for the sum of $4.800.30, the currency equivalent of a payment of £528.15.8, in respect of Police Pensions paid in India for the half year to 31st March 1896, referred to in my Report on the Account for 1896, but as satisfactory vouchers in support of corresponding payments for subsequent periods have been furnished to me, I propose to admit the charge.
Assets and Liabilities.
5. The Statement of Assets and Liabilities shows an excess of Liabilities over Assets on 31st December 1897 of $2,557.92 as compared with an excess of Assets over Liabilities of $548,964.46 at the close of the year 1896.
The unexpended balance of the 1893 Loan on the 31st December 1897, as will be observed from the footnote appended to the Statement of Assets and Liabilities, was $262,091.95.
