Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General on
the Account of Receipts and Expenditure of the Treasurer
of Hong Kong for the year 1897.
1.
The Revenue for the year 1897 amounted to
$2,352,366.32 or, inclusive of Land Sales and Water Account,
to $2,686,914.70.
The Expenditure during the same period
was $2,641,409.71.
There was therefore a surplus of
Revenue of $45,504.99.

2. The total Revenue for the year amounting, as
stated above, to $2,686,914.70 was $248,091.70 more than
the Estimate of $2,438,823 and larger also than the
Revenue of 1896 by $77,035.76.
The estimated receipts of Revenue were exceeded
under all Heads with the exception of "Interest" and
"Miscellaneous Receipts", which showed a deficiency compared
with the Estimates of $5,423.16 and $5,977.15 respectively.
