I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch of the 13th of January last, respecting the defence of the newly acquired territory at Hong Kong.
I have the honour to enclose for the information of your Government copies of a Memorandum and Remarks on the subject by the Colonial Defence Committee thereon, in which the Secretary of State for War has expressed his concurrence. Their Lordships Commissioners of the Admiralty have also expressed their concurrence in this Memorandum.
A copy of these Remarks has been communicated to the Commander-in-Chief on the Station and the Commodore at Hong Kong.
