Govr of Hongkong telegraphs that matches which every territory on Monday undertook to protect were burnt yesterday at Taipoh. Preparations are being made for ceremony of taking over. Our Colonial Secretary has been informed that bad spirit has developed & disturbances are apprehended. British troops have been instructed to act with forbearance but if attacked, authority must be asserted.
Impress upon Yamên necessity of attending to precautions against any troubles.
