Sir,

With reference to your letter No.29723 of the 1st instant and previous correspondence relative to the appointment of a Hospital Warder for the Victoria Gaol at Hong Kong, I have now the honour to submit the name of John Peak as a suitable candidate for the vacant post.

Mr Peak, who is a married man with one child, is 30 years of age and has served five years and 63 days in the R.A.M.C Staff Corps, which Corps he joined in September 1887. Since his discharge from the army, he has been employed as a male nurse by various Nursing Institutions.

The answers to the enquiries which we have made as regards Peak's personal character and technical qualifications have proved entirely satisfactory and he is said to be well suited for the appointment.

Mr Peak has passed a satisfactory medical examination by Dr Manson as to his fitness for service in Hong Kong and we were quite satisfied by a personal interview which we had with him.

It was found impossible to get an unmarried man possessing the necessary qualifications for this appointment
