With reference to your letter No 10049/99 of the
6th of May last, I have the honour to transmit herewith a
copy of a letter which we have received from Dr Claye Shaw
the Superintendent of the Banstead Asylum whom we asked to
assist us in the selection of a suitable candidate for the
post of Hospital Warder for the Victoria Gaol at Hong Kong.
I beg to enquire whether we are at liberty to
alter the terms of the appointment as suggested by Dr Shaw.
