I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the
Admiralty to transmit for the information of the Secretary
of State for the Colonies, copy of two despatches from the
Commander-in-Chief on the China Station, dated respectively
the 31st August No.650/2403 and the 1st September last
No.651/2373, (the latter with an enclosure) relative to the
measures taken for the suppression of piracy and robberies
in the West River.

My Lords would wish to be informed of Mr
Chamberlain's views with regard to the proposal in para-
graph 11 of the first of the two despatches suggesting the
establishment of a Water Police Force, to be stationed at
the various ports with fast steam boats at their disposal.
