COP.X.
No.822.
Enclosure 1.
Public Works Office,
Hongkong, 28th November, 1899.
Sir,
With reference to my memorandum on the subject of the New Law Courts in C.O.D.216 of 1899 and to what subsequently took place in Executive Council, I have the honour to suggest that application be made through the Crown Agents for an Assistant Engineer to supervise the work on the New Law Courts and the Governor's Residence.
The Crown Agents would, I think, do well to apply to the Consulting Architects to recommend a suitable person. He should have served a pupilage to a firm of Architects and have had some experience in the supervision of building works, and should be a good draughtsman.
The engagement should be on the usual terms and for three years.
I have etc,
(Sgd) R.D.Ormsby,
Director of Public Works.
