2 A copy of a letter from the Director of Public Works and a paper of particulars of the affair is enclosed herewith, for your information & guidance, in red ink;
I am in agreement with the proposal that the officer selected, although he is to be engaged primarily to supervise the section of building at the Peak residence, of course, contain the usual clause, as to his performing any duties, which the head of the Department may call upon him to undertake.

In reply to your despatch, 2° 369 of 29 December last, I have the honour to inform you that I have telegraphed to the Crown Agents for the Colonies to be authorized to instruct the engagement of an Assistant Engineer for P.W.D, to supervise the work on the Law Chun Combâ at the Peak residence, and that the Salary has now been increased to $2400 with Exchange Compensation allowance, so as to agree with the recent scale of Salaries proposed for the P. W. D.
