Sir,

I have the honour to transmit for your consideration the enclosed extract from a letter from the Inspector of Schools of the 4th October, 1899, recommending that a Grant-in-Aid be allowed towards the cost of building a Training Home for Chinese Girls.

2. Miss Davies reports that great success is anticipated for this school in view of the fact that there was a very large and successful Girls' Day School in Taipingshan until it was closed on account of the Plague in 1894; and that since that time there has been a large increase in the numbers of the Chinese residents in the neighbourhood of the site of the proposed Home.

3. The plans have been submitted to and approved of by the Director of Public Works; and as I am satisfied that all the necessary conditions prescribed by the Regulations...
