possible whether to surface crowding, relative height of houses to width of streets, number of stories, existence of cubicles, or exclusion of air and light by houses having been built back to back, or to any of these causes could be attributed the occurrence or persistence of plague, as diverse theories are held upon the subject, and some of the measures advocated involve serious expenditure. I regret to say that I do not find confirmation of any particular theory in the return.
