The number of in-patients treated in the Government Civil Hospital in 1898 was 2,898, the average for seven years past having been 2,509. The number of out-patients in the same year was 90,880. There were 544 dead bodies brought to the Mortuary for burial; 1,588 vaccinations were performed during the year, and 853 destitutes temporarily housed and fed. To meet the prejudices of the natives against foreign treatment, a temporary plague hospital has also been carried on during the recent epidemics of plague in the Colony.
