other respects too numerous to particularise.
Amongst the beneficent works carried on by
this Chinese hospital may be noticed the numbers of infants
vaccinated every year free; in fact the whole hospital work
is carried on without charge to those who benefit by it,
the hospital being a purely eleemosynary institution. Not
least amongst its charities is the housing of destitutes
until their friends can be found, or failing this the for-
warding of them by steamer or other modes of conveyance to
their native place. A continual succession of these destitutes
are to be found in the wards set apart for them. Not a few
lads kidnapped, deserted through fear of arrest by their
kidnappers and left stranded in the Colony have thus been
returned to their homes; waifs and strays found on the streets
have been taken in and cared for till some provision could
be made for them; while shipwrecked sailors, though unable
to attain their desired haven, have been enabled, through the
liberality of the Directors of the Tung Wa Hospital, to
return to the port from which they sailed.
