With reference to your despatch No.128 of the 15th July last, I have the honour to transmit for your information the enclosed extract from the Hongkong Daily Press in which an account is given of the ceremony in connection with the laying of the foundation stone of the Tung Wa Hospital Extension on Saturday the 25th ultimo.

2. A full account of the working of this Institution up to 1896 will be found in the Blue Book, which formed an enclosure to Governor's Despatch No.294 of the 29th December, 1896.

3. The reports on the Hospital forwarded to you from time to time since 1896 in the despatches noted in the annexed list show what great progress has been made recently in the good work which it performs, and a statement by the Assistant Registrar-General, enclosed herewith, indicates how satisfactory the results are of the improvements introduced into the Institution.
