18. Paragraph 8 Mr. Whitehead states that no provision is made for any work of importance directly bearing on the sanitation of the Colony. He apparently forgets that there is provision in the Estimates for increased water supply and more latrines, the importance of which was emphasised by me in my remarks in Council.
13. Paragraph 9. As to public latrines, tenders have already been called for the erection of three, and at least 5 more will be put in hand as soon as possible. Mr. Whitehead refers to Mr. Drury's Report. This Report is still under the consideration of the Sanitary Board, and when I am in possession of its views I intend to address you on this subject in a later despatch.
14. Paragraph 9. (a) The cleansing of the storm-water drains is not a matter which concerns the Estimates; but as it has been referred to by Mr. Drury in his Report, it is no doubt at present engaging the attention of the Sanitary Board and the Public Works Department.
