2. I now transmit for your information the enclosed amended copy of the 3rd enclosure to my despatch No.289 of the 19th ultimo, from which you will learn that there was a clerical error in the amount of advances to be recovered which was unfortunately not detected until recently and which on correction reduces the Estimated Balance of Assets at the end of this year to $376,613.90.

3. But from the enclosed report of the Treasurer, it will be seen that it is anticipated that the balance of Assets on the 31st December 1899 will amount in round figures to $500,000. This is due, as the Treasurer points out, to the receipts from Land Sales showing an Excess of $185,118 over the revised estimate which was framed when the original statement of the estimated balance of the Assets of the Colony was prepared.
