my salary is small and only sufficient for the needs of

myself and family.

At the examination by the Committee appointed

to enquire into the validity of my claim to Exchange Compensation I distinctly remember, if my memory serves me right,

at being asked whether I had any relatives at home depending on me.

As I had none, I presume it was on that ground

the privilege was withdrawn from me. I was given to understand by Mr. Travers, then Post-master General, that His

Excellency the Governor will reconsider my case at such

time as I have established a connection with a gold-using

country.

The present circumstances of my case is

dissimilar to that at the time of the withdrawal from me

of Exchange Compensation: having now a relative dependent

on me for means of support and which I am strenuously trying with all my power to help, but without being allowed

to draw Exchange Compensation I am unable to do so:

I, therefore, humbly request that His

Excellency will kindly reconsider my case and grant me, if

he sees possible, this privilege, which has been accorded

to a brother officer in the Hong Kong Civil Service, similarly

circumstanced as myself.

(Signed.)

I have &c.

H. Dixon,

Superintendent Money Order Office.
