RECR

Rec'd 24 NOV 19
Tung-Wa Hospital,
Hong Kong, 13th October, 1899.
Referring to the interview which I had with you about the proposed Hospital for infectious diseases on Friday last, when you kindly pointed out to me that the owner of Inland Lot No.1082 may claim damages from the Government if he can prove that his property has been depreciated in value owing to the erection of the Hospital,
I have the honour to inform you that negotiations have already been commenced with the owner in question and that prospects of coming to a satisfactory arrangement with him are so far not at all unfavourable.
The Directors beg, therefore, to request that His Excellency the Governor may be pleased to recommend to the Secretary of State the grant of the site, if possible, by this mail, as they are anxious to direct the scheme to a successful issue before the expiration of their term of office in December next.
Should the site be granted, the Directors undertake that the owner of Inland Lot No.1082 shall claim no damages from the Government on account of the erection of the Hospital.
I have &c.
(Signed) Ho Tung,
Chairman of the Directors,
Tung-Wa Hospital.
The Honourable J.H. Stewart Lockhart, C.M.G.,
Colonial Secretary.
