3. The Estimates for 1900 were laid upon the

table at a meeting of the Legislative Council held yester-

day when the Supply Bill for 1900 was read a first time.

I enclose a copy of the remarks made by me

at that meeting and of the Financial returns accompanying

the draft Estimates. From the latter you will observe that

the Estimated balance of 1899 assets amounts to $415,618.90.

4. The Estimates will be forwarded in due

course as soon as they have been passed by the Council.
