Letter No.292 of 20/8/99 to Hon. C. P. Chater, C.M.G. Chairman

Jubilee Committee..

Honourable Director of Public Works..

What is the estimated cost of the section between

Shaukiwan and Aberdeen, and how much money would be required

this year towards the construction of that section - which you

recommend should first be undertaken.

You will observe from these papers and from the answer

given to Mr. Belilios' question in Legislative Council the other

day that His Excellency the Governor has decided that the section

round Mount Davis is not to be made in view of Military objections.

It remains therefore to decide what section of the road is to

be made first and from what starting point. The Hon. Treasurer of

the Jubilee Committee must be asked to furnish funds, so please

submit your recommendations and state your initial monetary

requirements.

Honourable Colonial Secretary.

(Initialed) J.G.T.B.

p.. Colonial Secretary.

18-3-99.

The Estimate for a road from Shaukiwan to Aberdeen, a distance of 12 miles is $209,538.20.
