Aberdeen. By beginning at Pokfulam, or at both, the desired result could be much more rapidly attained than in any other way.
# A carriage road has been proposed round the Island. If such gradients are adopted, it will meet with the approval of nice drivers and cyclists.
An estimate has been drawn up, and it only remains to call for tenders and enter into contracts to ensure the work of construction being actively pushed forward.
The total length between Pokfulam and Kennedy Town is a little over 18½ miles, which for convenience of working has been divided into three sections, namely Pokfulam to Stanley 7 miles, Stanley to Aberdeen 6 miles, Aberdeen to Kennedy Town 5½ miles. The estimated cost of those sections respectively is $141,020, $95,012, and $145,612.00. Total for the whole road $355,187.00, average of $19,199 per mile.
The shortest section is much more difficult than either of the others, as it runs along the precipitous rock-bound coast at the base of Mount Davis.
