now for the work on the Jubilee Vote amount to about

92000 sufficient to complete about 5 miles of road, the

balance must be met by future votes.

If my proposals meet with approval, tenders should

be invited for sections 1 and 2, and, if satisfactory contrac-

tors are found, work commenced simultaneously at Shaukiwan and

Aberdeen.

6. The tenders should be for a lump sum, and

not on schedule rates, the tenderers being permitted to see

the plans, specifications, and bills of quantities on which our

estimate is based (but not our rates) the latter for their

information only and not guaranteed as correct.

7. On a schedule contract I would consider

a special European officer resident on the work necessary,

and there is no such officer available, but on a lump sum

contract I can arrange for the supervision

of the work with

our present staff, though possibly I may have to ask for some

additional travelling allowances, which could be met on the

contingencies of the Estimate.
