Public Works Office,

Hong Kong, 3rd August, 1898.

"Victoria Jubilee Road"

Referring to O.S.O.2664/1897, I have the honour to report that the survey for the above road was completed early in June, since when, the plotting of the work, drawing the plans, taking out the quantities and preparations of the Estimate have been in progress in this office. For convenience in working, I have divided the road into three sections: the first, 7 miles in length, extending from Shaukiwan to a point near the village of Stanley; the second, from this point to the old Harbour Office in Aberdeen, a distance of 6 miles; and the third from Aberdeen to Kennedy Town, a little over 5¼ miles. I forward herewith my Estimate for these three sections in detail:

for No.1 $114,170.20

for No.2 $ 95,406.00

for No.3 $145,612.80

$355,189.00, Total estimated cost of the road

or an average of $19,199 per mile.

2.

I have provided for a first-class metalled road.

The Honourable

The Colonial Secretary.
