The raising of the fees from $150 to $250 per annum is responsible for the increase in the amount derived from spirit licences.

It is difficult at the present stage to estimate exactly what revenue will be derived from land in the New Territory. Every endeavour is being made to push forward the work of land registration, and it is hoped that before long it will be possible to form a more accurate estimate of what the revenue from this source will be. In the meantime, $100,000 may be taken as an approximate figure.

The increase in the sums derived from piers arises from the fact that a number of temporary piers have been erected opposite Crown land, and that their owners have consequently to pay a Crown rent in addition to the ordinary annual fees chargeable under this head.

The letting of quarries in the New Territory accounts for the increase of receipts from stone quarries.

The reasons for the increase of $6,000 under the head of Water Account are the same as those given for the increase in assessed taxes.
