Draft Estimates for 1900
Submits
Sir W. Hamilton
(Minutes.)
The year 1898 showed a surplus of $76,000, which was better than was originally anticipated.
The year 1899, according to the Revised Estimates here given, will show a Revenue of $3,373,000, nearly $500,000 more than the original Estimate.
This excess is chiefly caused by unexpectedly large Land Sales, which are expected to produce nearly $500,000 instead of $200,000. We are not yet aware how much of the Land had been sold by the date of the present Dispatch, and it is possible that this Estimate is over-sanguine.
The other large increases are under Taxes $40,000 and Stamps $50,000.
