Sir,
Enclosure 2 Septem $1899.
I have the honour to enclose a copy of a letter received from Major-General Gascoigne, C.M.G., informing me that two officers and fifty men with four Maxim guns offered their services in the event of operations being undertaken in the Transvaal.
2. I telegraphed this offer to you yesterday. It is the outcome of the patriotic desire of the British Community here to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Mother Country and the other Colonies in any action that Her Majesty's Government may feel it necessary to take in the present crisis.
3. The Corps is effective, and small as the number may appear, it represents over 3% of the adult British male population of the Colony exclusive of Her Majesty's Forces.
I have the honour to be,
The Right Honourable
JOSEPH CHAMBERLAIN, M.P.,

Sir,
Your Most Obedient
Humble Servant,
Henry Arthur Blake
GOVERNOR &c.
