Officer Commanding, met with Col Elsdale R.E. that having regard to the peculiar condition of Hing King it would not be prudent to further reduce regular garrison. I therefore ordered the duty shouldered by the Hing King Volunteers, and
having regard to the fact that the
proclamation was issued only
at 10 p.m. I think the
Hing King Volunteers
deserve credit for
the large number that was able to march
at 1.8.45 p.m. on the 11th Sep this 1899
Government House.
The duty was performed. The attached report
will show. The result
of the practical demonstration of
utility of the force has been shown by the increase in number of the corps from 120 to 350 men,
