No. 258.

Sir,

Government House,

Hongkong,

8th September, 1899.

1. I have the honour to transmit for your consideration the enclosed copy of a letter from the Postmaster-General on the subject of supplying meals to the Post Office Clerks on the occasion of the arrival of the English and French Contract Mails.

2. I was unable to sanction the grant requested on receipt of further reports by the Postmaster-General, copies of which are enclosed, I considered it expedient to approve of the allowances suggested being paid for overtime work on occasions to which reference is made, subject, however, to your confirmation.

3. The total expense per annum is estimated at $3,705.00 and I beg to request your sanction for the reasons shown in the correspondence.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient humble servant,

Henry
