long and 2 wide, the second is 5 miles long by 3 miles wide, and the third is 6 miles long and from 1 mile to 2 miles wide

These three valleys will be policed from Un Long and Ping Shan Police Stations.

The eastern portion of the Territory will be policed from Sha Tin, Sai Kung, and Ft Tau Chau, while to commence with the Southern littoral will be served from Kow- loon City and Tsin Wan. Another station at Tai Lan Chung is, however, desirable. The island of Lertao is policed as far as practicable from Tai O and Tung Chung, the patrol launch looking after the Southern littoral of it.

The island of Cheung Chau has a Police Station to itself, and a subsidiary Station to the Aberdeen Police Station has been established at Lama, and is in charge of an Indian Sergeant and 4 men.

6. I do not consider that the area to be policed could be covered from a lesser number of bases. There are no roads in the country but only foot-paths which are extremely rough and subject to being to a large extent submerged in water in wet weather, and the country itself is intersected by ranges of hills the paths over which are in many instances very steep.
