No. 1095.

1:00 C.O. 224 26 SEP 51

Colonial Secretary's Office
Hongkong 8th July, 1851.

Sir,

In reply to your letter No. 906 of the 28th ultimo, I am directed to state that the area of land coloured green in the tracing forwarded therewith is valued by the Director of Public Works at 30 cents a square foot, and the Annual Crown Rent is estimated at the rate of $500 an acre.

The area in question comprises about 107,000 square feet, and the cost of the land including premium and Crown Rent capitalized at 25 years would amount to $62,475.

In the event of the Admiralty purchasing the site for the purpose of an infectious hospital, I am to state that the Medical Authorities are of opinion that there should be boundary walls all round the hospital area, and that these walls should be at least 5 feet from the main road on either side, and further that the blocks of hospital buildings should also be 10 feet from the boundary wall.

The Secretary
To the Commodore.

I have etc,
(Sd) J.H. Stewart Lockhart.
Colonial Secretary
